Monitoring and Assessment of Freshwater Ecosystems

With greater concern for (and investment in) management of freshwater ecosystems, there is a greater need to improve our capacity to observe the condition of these systems and how they respond to human interventions. Our expertise is focused around monitoring and assessment of physical aspects of freshwater ecosystems and we collaborate with ecologists across a number of institutions to achieve comprehensive ecosystem assessment.

We have a particular focus on model-based monitoring and assessment and its central role in adaptive management of freshwater ecosystems. We draw on the group’s capacity in a broad range of environmental measurement technologies and modelling systems and have designed monitoring and assessment programs at river reach and basin-scales.
