Environmental Hydrology and Water Resources Group

Systems Modelling and Analysis

With increasing competition for scarce water resources in Australia and worldwide, water managers are faced with difficult decisions that require modern tools to predict the behaviour of complex water systems present in catchments and river basins with a high degree of development.

Assessment of water management alternatives in complex systems must be based on sophisticated modelling tools that can capture the temporal and spatial interactions between multiple sources of water supply and multiple demands with differential quality constraints.

The group has considerable capacity to develop modelling tools that can assist water managers and planners in the analysis of water management and planning strategies to achieve sustainable environmental, economic and social outcomes. The group has extensive experience in the application of system analysis to support decisions using scenario planning techniques.
